Imposing fees on vacant residential units in Saudi Arabia will be ruled out for the time being due to lack of research on the matter, Makkah newspaper reported, citing the Kingdom's Housing Minister Majed Al Hogail. Published figures were extracted from studies conducted in 2010, the Minister said. A study is currently underway by Saudi Electricity Company to determine the current number of unused properties, according to data available on Argaam. Shura Council member Fahd bin Jumaa had earlier suggested imposing fees on vacant units. (Argaam)
