Government to rely only on tenders for future energy projects

The government has reportedly decided to no longer follow the “direct orders” mechanism for energy production projects and to rely solely on tenders, according to sources at the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company speaking to Al Mal. The sources clarified that the government had relied on direct orders to speed up the process,  given the urgent need for additional capacities back than, which is no longer the case, given the current excess capacity upon recent capacity additions; however, this decision will not be implemented on projects currently under negotiations, including Al Nowais coal plant, Siemens wind power project, and the Memoranda of Understanding that were signed at the Sharm El Sheikh Economic Conference.
