Government to raise commodity ration cards allocation by 29%
The government is reportedly considering raising the subsidy bill dedicated to commodity ration cards by 29% to EGP27 per month in FY17/18, according to unnamed sources at the Ministry of Finance. The rise will cost EGP4.5bn per year, according to an official document seen by Reuters. The state is currently subsidising 68.8 million citizens through c20.8 million ration cards worth EGP21 per month. The government is also considering to expense an exceptional raise to state employees to meet rising costs, and a set of measures should be finalised within the coming few weeks.
