Government set to announce new export rebate programme within two weeks, further incentives to grow exports
The Egyptian government is set to announce a new export rebate programme within two weeks, according to the Minster of Trade and Industry, Tarek Kabil, as noted in a speech at the “Made in Egypt” conference. The governments is targeting over 10% annual growth in exports as means to increase FX supply and is seeking to expand its exporter base (adding smaller exporters to the list, penetrating new markets). The new strategy is structured to ensure equality in export support between free zones and other zones; which excludes a tax exemption to free-zones. Also, the new programme will provide an additional 15% rebate for exports that show 25%+ growth. Other rebates will range between 5 to 10%, and can go up to 30%, and will depend on: i) the extent of the added-value in the product; ii) percentage of local component; iii) new export markets; as the product aims at exploring new markets, other than European and Middle Eastern markets, mainly to African and East-Asian markets.
