Government plans fuel price hike to industry in few days
The government is reportedly planning to raise fuel price to industries - especially energy-intensive industries, in the coming few days as part of on-going talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The plan includes compensation of EGP4bn as export rebate. Diesel will be spared to minimise inflationary impact on low-income consumers, the source added. The IMF and the government are negotiating the timeline of the fuel subsidies removal - the government wants a gradual phase out while the IMF insists the sooner the better. Meanwhile, the government has raised energy prices in July every year starting from 2014. (Al Shorouk)
