Government in talks to borrow USD5bn from World Bank
According to Al Mal, the government is in talks to borrow as much as USD5bn from the World Bank and other lenders to support development in Sinai. Al Mal cited sources as saying that the housing and investment ministries are leading the efforts to identify priority projects in Sinai. The government had revealed recently that Sinai development will cost an estimated EGP275bn over four years. Investment Minister Sahar Nasr has previously secured commitments from development finance institutions, including USD100mn from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), while the Cabinet has signed off on USD258.5mn in funding from KFAED for Sinai.
