Government forms committee to study unemployment benefits
The Social Solidarity Ministry formed a committee to study the possibility of unemployment benefits. The committee will determine the criteria for eligibility and number of citizens who would be paid in order to work out the feasibility of paying out unemployment benefits under the state’s social welfare programme. The Supreme Administrative Court issued a verdict last week ruling the right for the unemployed to receive a monthly pension as social security. The ruling states that the state is obligated to include unemployment within the criteria of social security entitlement, and that the value of unemployment benefit should guarantee decent life for the citizen, as stipulated in the Constitution.
