Government finalises economic reform programme, may ask IMF for USD5-6 billion loan

The government has finalised its economic reform programme to be presented to the newly-elected Parliament, which is set to first convene on 10 January, state-owned Akhbar Al Youm reported. The programme includes a number of legislation to enhance the investment environment. The government will also seek Parliament’s approval for a USD5-6 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the reform programme, an unnamed official source told the newspaper.
