Government considers fixed exchange rate for custom duties
A meeting between the Minister of Finance, Amr El Garhy, Prime Minster Sherif Ismael, and the Head of Customs Authority Magdy Abdel Aziz explored fixing the exchange rate for custom duties in light of the currency float, Al Garhy said. The Ministry is in talks with the Central Bank about implementing a fixing the rate for customs, Abdel Aziz said, adding it is required by many importers who complained that the float had a negative impact on pricing of goods since the exchange rate changes on a daily basis.
