French CMA CGM to accept payment from Egypt in USD only
The French shipping conglomerate CMA CGM announced that it will charge shipping, loading and unloading fees at Egypt’s ports in USD as it fails to source FX from Egyptian banks, according to the head of the importers division of the Cairo chamber of commerce Ahmed Sheeha. The decision will raise shipping costs on importers by 20-25% given the parallel market conditions, he added. Meanwhile, the company operates eight key maritime routes connecting Egypt and Europe, leading to panic among importers that other major shipping lines will follow suit. (Al-Borsa)
