Foreign reserves drop by USD2bn in December

Egypt’s foreign currency reserves fell to USD42.6bn in December from USD44.5bn in November, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said Monday, the first drop since a 2016 currency devaluation. A senior official at the CBE told Al Mal newspaper the decline was driven by portfolio outflows from the fixed income market, debt servicing and payments on behalf of some state entities.
