Kuwait’s exports hit KWD3.5bn in 2Q16, down 25.8% compared to 2Q15, according to the country’s Central Administration of Statistics (CAS). Trade volume stood KWD5.9bn in 2Q16, down 17.6% Y-o-Y from KWD7.1bn 2Q15, according to a KUNA press statement. Coverage rate was 150.8% in 2Q16, compared to 200.6% in 2Q15, while coverage rate excluding oil was 15.6% in 2Q16, vs. 20.1% in 2Q15, the statement added. In 2Q16, the top categories for exports were mineral fuels and oils (KWD3.1bn), with a share of 89.7%, organic chemicals (KWD77.9mn), representing 2.2% and plastics and articles thereof (KWD60mn) at 1.7%, while on the imports side, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts had by far the highest value of imports (KWD327.4mn) with share of 13.9%, followed by vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock and parts (KWD279.3mn) at 11.8%.
