Emaar, Dubai Holding to revive “Bawadi” hotel scheme
Dubai Holding has announced that plans to develop “Bawadi,” a AED100bn hospitality and leisure development in Dubailand, have been revived. The project was first announced in 2007, but later put on hold, in the wake of the global financial crisis. The plan was for the project to be developed by a 50:50 JV between Bawadi (part of Tatweer, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding) and Emaar Properties (Emaar). Bawadi was to contribute 70mn sqft of land, while Emaar was to contribute AED3.85bn in cash to the scheme. As per the original plan, the project was to include a chain of luxury hotels, commercial and retail space. This is in addition to a residential component. The terms of the agreement between the two parties and the project components may change and will be communicated in due course, according to the spokesperson of Dubai Holding. (Arabian Business)
