Electricity Ministry to sign three preliminary contracts with Chinese counterparties for new power plants
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy plans to sign preliminary contracts with Shanghai Electric, Dongfang and Sinohydro for USD6 billion during the Chinese president’s visit to Egypt, Al Borsa reported. The investments will be allocated to build two coal-powered power plants, expected to generate a total of 3,960 MW, and a water pumping station with a capacity of 2000 MW, on a EPC+Finance and BOO basis. Shanghai Electric will officially sign an agreement to establish a coal-powered power plant in Hamrawein area on the Red Sea coast on 21 January, according to the company’s Director Chein Chen.
