Egypt’s PMI records contraction for fourth month

Egypt’s non-oil private-sector activity shrank for the fourth month in December, but the rate of contraction slowed from November, the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) survey showed Thursday. Egypt’s PMI rose to 49.6 from 49.2, remaining below the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction. Private sector activity has expanded in only five months over the past three years. New orders and employment continued to fall, although at a slower pace than in previous months. The increase in input prices was its slowest in almost six and a half years, according to the PMI data.
