Egypt to sign MoUs for the grid connection with Saudi Arabia, expected to decide on bidder in 2016
Egypt will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for grid connection project with Saudi Arabia, during King Salman’s visit to Egypt, according to the chairman of EETC, Gamal Abdel Reheem. The project will be offered through a global bid, and the tender is estimated to complete in August 2016, for the project to be completed in 2019. The project (total cost USD1.6 billion, Egypt share USD610 million) aims at sharing 3,000 MW during peak demand hours, being noon in Saudi Arabia and after sunset in Egypt, with a minimum three-hour time lag. Other MOUs are expected to be signed for renewable energy projects. (Al Mal)
