Egypt to raise metro ticket prices 100% in 2018, Transport Minister says
Egypt is planning to double the price of tickets
for Cairo’s metro by 100% in 2018, Transport Minister Hisham Arafat said on
Sunday. The new prices will be effective in 2018 to range between two, three,
and four Egyptian pounds (0.112, 0.168, and 0.224 cents) depending on the
number of stations the passenger would use, Arafat explained. The move comes
just one week after Egypt had announced fuel and gasoline price hikes by up to
42% for households and another rise in electricity prices by up to 42%.
