Egypt-Saudi electrical grid connection to start operating in 2019
The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced that the electrical grid connection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia will start operations in 2019, according to Saudi Press Agency. Egypt and Saudi Arabia had signed a grid connection agreement back in 2013 at a cost of c.SAR6bn, where each country will be responsible for the project costs at its territory, but will evenly split the c.SAR900mn cost of the submarine power cables, where the project will require 16 km of submarine power cables passing through the Gulf of Aqaba, according to Argaam.
