Egypt has not yet received World Bank and African Development Bank loans

Egypt has yet to receive USD1.5 billion in loans from the World Bank and the African Development Bank, Tarek Amer Governor of Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) told Al Borsa. The delay is a result of prolonged procedures taken by the government, the newspaper quoted an unnamed source at the World Bank as saying. The bank plans to convene with the government as soon as the latter receives Parliament’s vote of confidence in order to discuss the strategic partnership between both parties, the source added.   Our comment: The news means that December’s foreign reserves, set to be released on Wednesday, will not be boosted by the loan as we previously assumed. Reserves should decline in light of the clearance of the foreign portfolio investors backlog; reserves stood at USD16.4 billion as of 30 November. (Al Borsa, Mohamed Abu Basha)
