Egypt eyes first primary budget surplus since 2006, Deputy Finance Minister says
Egypt expects to record a primary budget surplus next year, the first since 2016, said Deputy Finance Minister Ahmed Koushouk. The surplus would help reduce government borrowing, he said, without providing further details. The reform plan – which aims to achieve economic growth and lower unemployment and inflation rates by FY17/18 - includes measures to reduce budget deficit and public debt, redirect spending channels and revenue sources, expand tax base, and restructure business environment, he added.
