Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) has awarded Germany’s ThyssenKrupp a contract to design, manufacture, and supply and maintain 251 elevators and 390 escalators for Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro. The value of the contract has not been disclosed. We note that six lines are under construction, with a total length of 176km and c85 stations. The BACS consortium, comprising the US’ Bechtel, the local Almabani General Contractors, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Germany’s Siemens, had won the USD9.29bn contract to develop the two metro lines in July 2013.
