Arabtec Holding (Arabtec) has announced that its unit, Arabtec Construction, had received, together with TAV construction (Turkey-based contractor), a letter of intent from the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication in Bahrain, related to the main works of the Bahrain International Airport Modernisation Programme, funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). This comes as part of the USD1.1 billion expansion plan for Bahrain International Airport. The contract involves the construction of a 170,000 sqm terminal building, associated buildings, car parks and aircraft parking areas. Once completed, the expansion project will increase the airport’s capacity to 14 million passengers per year. The size of this contract and Arabtec’s share are yet to be disclosed. This represents the second major award win for Arabtec in 2016, after the AED2 billion contract awarded by Aldar Properties. (Company disclosure, The National, MEED)
